André Gingras begint zijn kersverse leiderschap bij Dance Works Rotterdam met nieuw werk en een herneming van zijn succesvolle productie Anatomica#3. Hierin stelt de choreograaf dat de media ons telkens weer het beeld van het maakbare perfecte lichaam voorschotelt: politici, royalty, supermodellen. Het lichaam is geobjectiveerd, gepimpt en ontdaan van betekenis. Gingras laat alle mogelijkheden van lichamelijk exhibitionisme zien, van spottend commentaar tot adembenemende sprongen door de ruimte. Toch blijft het, in al haar kwetsbaarheid, verbazen. Hoe laag kunnen we zinken en hoe hoog kunnen we vliegen?

The (im)perfect body acording to Gingras

André Gingras begins his brand-new directorship of Dance Works Rotterdam with new work and a reprise of his successful production Anatomica #3. In this piece, the choreographer argues that the media continually presents the image of the malleable perfect body to us: politicians, royalty, supermodels. The human body has been objectified, pimped, and stripped of meaning. Gingras shows all the possibilities of physical exhibitionism; from mocking commentary to breathtaking jumps through space. Yet it continues to amaze, in all its vulnerability. How low can we sink, and how high can we fly?
